Below are some photos of wonderful moments during several years of signature collecting, showing some of the great people I've met from the Aviation and Motorsport world.Many thanks to all these great names who have kindly added their signature to Books, Models, Prints, Aviation Art, Posters, and Photos. From world championship winning Grand Prix drivers, and riders, to World War Two veterans, including our resilient troops on the the ground, and Battle Of Britain pilots. Thank you all for your time and your kindness, in helping me put this collection together over the years.
Duxford 2014 VeteransA lovely picture of Tom Neil as he took a moment while signing some Matt Holness prints for me at the Duxford Airshow in 2014. He was particularly pleased that the aircraft depicted in the print was HIS Hurricane ! Murray WalkerTrue Gentleman, Murray Walker, was an absolute pleasure to meet and chat to at the Race Retro Show in 2014. Here seen about to sign my TT Sound Stories LP. I gave him some original 1960s B+W bike photos from a friends' collection, and he very kindly wished my Father a Happy Birthday via my mobile on the day. An unmistakable voice for any Motor Sport fan. Superbly knowledgeable about all 2 and 4 wheel racing,modest, and as previously mentioned, a gentleman. | Murray on my phone to DadAs mentioned alongside the previous photo, Murray Walker very kindly gave my Father a call on my mobile to wish him a Happy Birthday. My Father was sat at home while I was away working at the show, and I just thought it would be a nice touch if I couldn't be there with him. This was in the press office, and afterwards everyone stood and applauded. A special moment ! Duxford Airshow 2014From Left to Right, Messrs Terence Kane, Tong Pickering, and Ken Wilkinson, all being kind enough to sign some of my prints and books at the September Airshow at Duxford 2014. This was about the last time this great group of veterans met up at a show to do a signing. I'm pleased to have had the chance to meet them. | Mike Costin and Valve SetRace Retro once again, this time in 2017.Mike was at the show as part of the celebration of 50 years since one of the world’s most iconic engines made its debut on the track. I have a rare set of DFR V8 F1 Engine Valves mounted in a plinth, and Mike very kindly signed these for me. Here he sits smiling at this unusual set afterwards. (Since been purchased by a fellow enthusiast). | Arnhem Veterans-Cosby ShowI had the pleasure of meeting Gil Thompson, Gerry Dimmock, both (10th Para Arnhem 1944), at the wonderful Cosby Victory Show a couple of years ago, and they very kindly signed a Robert Taylor book for me. My mother served in the NAAFI during WW2 and she was with some of the lads that went to Arnhem when based in Spalding just before the raid, and she collected a few signatures in an autograph book which we still have today. (Maybe that's where I got the autograph 'bug' from). God Bless you Mum. |
Little Gransden Airshow SigningHere Jack Linaker (1 & 9 Sqn), and Air Commodore Charles Clarke OBE, very kindly sign a Robert Taylor book for me at the superb Little Gransden airshow a few years ago. If you've never been, this is one of those lovely 'little' Airshows and Classic Car shows that we all used to enjoy years ago, but still in existence today. Please look it up and add to your diary. Normally held on the Sunday of the August Bank Holiday weekend. | Didier de Radigues at Spa ClassicVery underrated Belgian rider, Didier de Radigues kindly signing some photos that I took of him when he came over to Cadwell Park back in 1978. Again signatures obtained at the Spa Classic. | Rolf Steinhausen Spa 2010Double Sidecar World Champion, (1975/76), and triple TT winner, Rolf Steinhausen, very kindly signing a rare poster of him and passenger Josef Huber, at the Spa Classic for me in 2010. |
Tom KristensenI very proudly worked for Neil Brown Engineering from 2003 to 2007, and was lucky enough to meet several drivers using the superb engines supplied by this very successful Spalding race engine company. Seen here chatting with the most successful LeMans driver in history, Tom Kristensen. Top bloke as well as top driver. | Dick Salmon Signing BRM Special Evening_edited_editedOne of Motor Racing's real characters, Dick Salmon, signing some BRM books for me at the BRM Celebration Evening, Bourne December 2017. Dick worked at BRM during the 1950s and 60s working with such drivers as Fangio, Clark and Hill to name but a few. Superb dry Lincolnshire sense of humour, and Top Bloke. If you want a good read, look out for Dick's "BRM A Mechanics Tale" book. A superb insight into the BRM Grand Prix Years, both on and off the track. | BRM Evening Bourne Dec 2017I was fortunate enough to get some BRM books signed by ex mechanics, designers etc during a great evening celebrating the BRM Racing History. Gene Romero Signs at CadwellTop American Motorcycle racer Gene Romero,1975 Daytona 200 winner, double AMA champion and Works Yamaha rider during the 1970s, came over to Cadwell Park to help commemorate the great Anglo-American Transatlantic Trophy races which ran from 1971 until 1991. A great weekend, with other stars such as Dick Mann, Dave Aldana, and Don Emde, from the USA, and Percy Tait, Paul Smart and Tony Jefferies representing the 'home team'. | Phil Read IOM 1982Phil Read seen here in his 'garage hideaway' in Onchan during TT practice week in 1982.
