Operation Market Garden-50th AnniversaryThis First Day Cover commemorates the 50th Anniversary of Operation Market Garden, the operation to take control of important river crossings such as the Bridge at Arnhem. A lovely condition cover no.13 of only 14 produced, signed by Pte.Geoffrey A.Belson, 2nd Battalion Seaforth Highlanders who was part of the Operation in September 1944. Jimmy James signed Great Escape FDCThis cover was produced for the 60th anniversary of The Great Escape. It features Sqn Ldr Roger Bushell who was the recognised leader of operations in Stalag Luft III. It c/w the signature of Sqn Leader Bertram 'Jimmy' James MC. Jimmy was No.39 in Tunnel 'Harry'. They were the first to arrive at the Sorpe Dam, the most difficult to attack, and it was apparently the 10th 'run in' before they were happy to release their Barnes Wallis designed 'Bouncing Bomb'. Adolf Galland & Hans Weik signed FDCOne of the sought after Hans Rossbach First Day Covers. This is quite a rare one, being No.8 of only 24 ever produced with these signatures on. This MRAF The Lord Tedder cover comes with the signatures of Adolf Galland KC, and Hans Weik KC. Galland is the better known with 104 aerial victories, but Weik scored 36 in only 85 missions ! (129 between them on the Western Front). Price :- £30.00 +p+p | St. Nazaire First Day CoverCommemorating the daring St. Nazaire Raid, code named, 'Operation Chariot', this cover is in lovely condition, and comes with the signatures of Michael C.Burn MC, and George R.Wheeler OBE MM. Capt. Burn was No.2 Commando and was captured during the raid. He was awarded the Military Cross, and was also a prisoner in Colditz. Corporal Wheeler, also No.2 Commando, evaded capture, escaped via France to Spain, and was awarded the Military Medal. BBMF Lancaster FDCCommemorating the Lancaster of the BBMF, this cover produced for the 1975 RAF Stafford Open day is in great condition, and comes with the signatures of Luftwaffe Ace Walter Wolfrum who flew with JG52, and was credited with no fewer than 137 aerial victories in 423 missions. 'Safely Home' First Day Cover 3Produced by the Battle Of Britain Historical Society, this FDC shows RAF Hurricane Aircraft during those battles, and is titled 'Safely Home. Part of a set, this one comes with the signature of RAF pilot Wing Commander Bob Doe DSO, DFC, who had 14 aerial victories during that battle, and later on during WWII commanded 10 Squadron during the Burma and Japanese campaigns. Price :- £14.00+p+p | 1976 Farnborough FDCProduced for the Farnborough International in 1976, and also commemorating Hawker Siddeley Aviation, this First Day Cover is signed by Luftwaffe WWII ace pilot, Osker Romm KC. This cover fittingly comes with the signature of Group Captain Leonard Cheshire VC OM, DSO DFC who was commander during the Dams Raid period, and was hugely respected by his fellow RAF crews/Squadron members and those of Bomber Command as a whole. Multi Signed Parachute PhotoAn unusual photo taken of a Pilot ot Aircrew member parachuting out of their aircraft. This comes signed by 3 members of the Catapiller club, namely, Reg Freeth of 61 Sqn, who baled out of a Wellington Bomber on 21-12-1942, Reg Payne, wireless operator, 50 Sqn, baled out 12-2-1944, and Henry Wagner of 51 Sqn who baled out of a Halifax in 1944. Basil, better known as 'Stapme' also flew with 257 Sqn helping to close the Falaise Gap, and also with 247 Sqn during 'Operation Market Garden'. Tom Sopwith Signed 203 Sqn CoverThis cover, created for the 65th Anniversary of 203 RAF Squadron is signed by the great Tom Sopwith. Signed in 1976 blue marker pen, which he was well known for and he nearly always added the date after his name. One of Aviation's greats ! Price :- £35.00 +p+p | Pat Reid & Jack Courtenay Signed Colditz CoverCommemorating the 40th Anniversary of the Liberation of Colditz, this cover comes signed by Major Pat Reid MBE MC. Reid was one of the few to escape from Colditz, crossing the border into neutral Switzerland in late 1942. Also signed by Lt. Jack Courtenay who arrived at Colditz on the 21st of June 1943. Red Arrows Salute Farnborough 1986This First Day Cover commemorates the Red Arrows Salute during the 1986 Farnborough International Airshow. Price :- £5.00+p+p | T.W.Brooke-Smith First Day CoverTom Brooke-Smith learnt to fly at Brooklands, becoming a competent pilot before legally able to hold a licence. His career in Aviation led him to join the ATA in 1940. Having flown over 80 types of aircraft he was then to join Shorts to eventually become their chief test pilot, later becoming the pilot of the 1st VTOL aircraft ! Signed by Tom and Lt. Cdr. Steve Thomas DSC who shot down 3 fast jets during the Falklands Conflict in 1982. Price :- £6.00 +p+p |
Operation Chariot Signed FDCCommemorating 'Operation Chariot', known as the St.Nazaire raid, one of the most courageous of WWII, on 28-3-1942. (5 Victoria Crosses were awarded following this raid, the most for one conflict during the whole of WWII). This great cover c/w the signatures of No,2 Commando Michael C.Burn MC, who was captured during the raid, and subsequently awarded the Military Cross for his bravery, & Lt. George R.Wheeler OBE MM, also No.2 Commando, who escaped through France post raid. Some great artwork and a special date stamp, are complemented by the signatures of Captain Neil Rankin CBE, who was the first Fleet Air Arm pilot to fly the Harrier, and later was Commander of the later HMS Ark Royal, and Rear Admiral Colin Cooke-Priest who Captained several ships during his naval career as well as being Assistant Director of Naval Air Warfare during the Falkland’s War. Brian Trubshaw First Day Cover Presentation pieceA really nice presentation piece detailing Ernest Brian Trubshaw's RAF and Civilian flying career, comes with a rare First Day Cover commemorating the Very First Concorde flight (2-3-1969), but date stamped on the 3rd, and this is signed by Brian Trubshaw. Brian was the co-pilot alongside Andre Turcat on the French Flight, and flew the Concorde on its' very first UK flight on the 9th of March 1969, and was very much involved with all Concorde's test programme. Sir Tasker Watkins VC Signed FDCA fitting signature of a VC First Day Cover, is that of Sir Tasker Watkins VC. Part of an assault on a German machine gun post, after other officers were killed in the approach, Watkins continued to lead the group, leading a bayonet charge against 50 armed enemy infantry and then single-handedly taking out a machine-gun post to ensure the safety of his unit. He was the first Welsh member of the British Army to be awarded a VC during the Second World War. Price :- £19.00 +p+p | 40th Anniversary of 1st Flight of British Jet AircraftShowing the Gloster 'Whittle' flying over RAF Cranwell 15-5-1941, this cover is signed by Air Commodore Edward M.Donaldson CB, CBE, DSO, AFC, who served with 151 squadron flying Hurricanes during WWII, and was credited with 11 aerial victories, & 10 'probables'. He went on to command the 1st British Jet Sqn in 1941. Donaldson also set an Air Speed World Record in 1946 of 615.78mph in a Gloster Meteor. Price :- £6.00 +p+p |
Luftwaffe Signed Cover No.777Commemorating the disbandment of 1107 Marine Craft unit in 1972, this cover is signed by Luftwaffe Aces, Johannes Steinhoff, Erich Rudorffer, and Kurt Kuhlmey, as well as the pilot that 'flew' the cover. These German pilots were all awarded the Knights Cross of the Iron Cross, and had a total of over 400 aerial victories between them ! In very nice condition. Signed by A.C.Campbell-Orde CBE, AFC, FRAeS. WW1 Pilot 1916-18 RN & RAF and saw active service in Belgium in 1917. He then became chief Test Pilot for Armstrong Whitworth 1924-36, and operations manager for British Airways 1936-39. Great Condition Cover. Wing Commander Bert Evenden Signed FDCWing Commander Bert Evenden was a member of His Majesty's Airship R34,in which was flown from Scotland to New York on 2-6-1919, the first Atlantic Airship Crossing. They returned on 13th of July to complete a double crossing. During WWII Bert served in the RAF in India, Egypt & South Africa, twice mentioned in despatches. Signed by Bert Evenden. Price :- £5.00 +p+p | First Flight Restored Blenheim CoverIn close to mint condition, is this lovely First Day Cover created to commemorate the First Public Flight of the Restored Bristol Blenheim at the Biggin Hill Air Fair in 1987, after a 12 year restoration project, and was, at the time, the only flying Blenheim in the world. Pete Brothers Signed Biggin Hill CoverThis RAF Biggin Hill cover featuring the Sopwith Camel F1, commemorates the anniversary of the Battle Of Britain 20th September 1969. In very nice condition, it comes with the Signature of Air Commodore Pete Brothers CBE, DSO, DFC, who served with 32, 257,457 & 602 Squadrons during the Second World War. Julius Hatry Signed MontageNot a First Day Cover, but a very interesting signed photo 'montage' of Julius Hatry, the German Engineer who designed the World's First Rocket Driven Aeroplane, alongside Fritz von Opel, and part of the Opel RAK programme, in 1929. Signed by Julius Hatry. Helmut initially served on light cruisers and Torpedo Boats before joining the U-Boat Service. in April 1940. He captained U-143 and later U-571, and was awarded the Knights Cross of the Iron Cross. Margaret Thatcher & B1 Crew signed 1997 RIAT FDCA lovely designed cover for the 1997 Royal International Air Tattoo. In lovely condition, and comes with the signatures of Baroness Margaret Thatcher, and also Dean Taylor who was a crew member on the Rockwell B1B (850060) on the day. Rare signed cover. Fritz Poske signed U-Boat Seies cover No.36Special U-Boat Series cover No.36. This one is signed by Kapitan zur See Fritz Poske. He was the commander of U-504, and was credited with the sinking of 15 ships. He was awarded the Knights Cross of the Iron Cross. Jim Clay Signed FDCOne of the more sort after signatures from the Dams Raid Survivors is that of Jim Clay DFC. Despite already having completed over 30 missions up to 1943, Clay joined Les Munro's crew as Bomb Aimer in Lancaster AJ-W. Hit by severe flak with damaged communications, they headed back to Scampton without reaching their target. When he was de commissioned in 1946, Jim Clay had completed 46 missions !
